«Capriole» is an italian word for a «playful leap» or jump. It seemed appropriate for the type of music you find in this short piece, with it’s frequent skips, leaps, tremollos, flourishes and volatile articulations. This music is set against passages with a more lyrical or tranquill character, often soaring in the higher register or utilizing the more fragile timberal qualities of the oboe sound.
The piece was premiered by the japanese oboist Naomi Kanegae-Montag on her masters recital the 4th of December 2013 at Barrat Due Institute of Music, Oslo. It was later played by oboist Yui Ito on several occasions through 2014.
